Crystal Ibarra, Membership Director

Hi!! I'm Crystal Ibarra the Membership Director here at your Garden City Family YMCA. I was born and raised here. I have worked here at the Y since August 2012. I started at our Front Desk, was promoted to Membership Coordinator in November 2012, & in May of 2013 I was promoted to the Membership Director. I love everything there is about our non profit organization.  There are so many opportunities working here.. The YMCA is like my second home and I wouldn't change it for anything. I enjoy meeting new people each day to help them have a healthier lifestyle.

Steven Lynch, Family Director

My name is Steven and I was born and raised in Lakin, KS, where I participated in football, cross country, basketball, and track but basketball was my favorite sport. Even now basketball is my favorite. I am a competitive person and will compete in just about any sport.  After high school I went to community college where I eventually transferred to Fort Hays State University where I earned my bachelors’ degree in Sport and Recreation Management.  I did my internship here at the YMCA January, February, and March of 2013 and have been here since.  After my internship I was actually the interim director for a month until someone was hired full time for the job.  After that, I worked as the building supervisor for about a month or so until I was offered the Child Care Coordinator job. I worked that for about a year and a half until the Healthy Living Director job opened up again.  So I applied for the job and was offered it shortly after. Recently I became the Family Director.  I am lucky and blessed to be able to come here after school and also to be able to stay here, I really enjoy working for the YMCA.  I have now been married since 2016, and we now have two beautiful children, a daughter and a son. Email Steven at slynch@ymcaswkansas.org

Manuel Guzman, Sports & Healthy Initiatives Director

I am 27 years old and was born in San Jose, Calif. My family and I moved to Garden City in 1999. After graduating from GCHS, I attended GCCC for three years where I was the women's college soccer manager and assistant coach, training some of the college athletes on the side to help them compete at the Division II level. After graduating from GCCC I attended Kansas State University where I studied in the College of Human Ecology and received a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. While attending KSU I was the assistant manager for the Kansas State Track and Field team for two years, and later became the head track manager. During this time, I learned a numerous amount of exercises while working under an Olympic coach and with a few Olympians as well. After graduating from KSU in 2016, I returned to Garden City where I worked at Accelacare as a Physical Therapy Technician. I helped patients and recovering athletes by making sure they were using proper technique when doing their exercises. I look forward to spending the next few years in Garden City working as a personal trainer, and hope to own my own gym some day. Email Manuel at mguzman@ymcaswkansas.org

Liz Foster, Aquatics Coordinator

Hi! I’m Elizabeth Foster, but everyone calls me Liz. I’ve lived in Southwest Kansas my whole life.  I was born in Tribune and moved to Holcomb when I was two. I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I have been to 26 different states collecting stamps from each state capitol, and I’m looking forward to visiting 24 more states. I am a huge Florida Gators Fan.  I learned to swim when I was attending Holcomb Elementary School. I didn’t like putting my face in the water when I started! But, since high school I have found a passion for swimming and helping others enjoy being in the water. I worked at the Holcomb pool and joined the YMCA team five years ago. I received my Lifeguard Instructor Certification a couple of months ago and am excited to take on the Aquatics Coordinator role. Email Liz at efoster@ymcaswkansas.org

YMCA of Southwest Kansas Association Staff

Alicia Johnston, Association Coordinator for YMCA of Southwest Kansas

Hello there!  My name is Alicia Johnston. My husband, Jordan, and I moved here from Wichita in 2007.  We have four beautiful children, Kaeden, Millicent, Koehn, and Elias.  Two of which are twin boys, that are VERY active! You will probably see them running around here at some point!

I have really grown to love the area and the people in Southwest Kansas.  I try to be an active parent in my childrens’ schools and lives.  I am the vice president of the P.T.O. and my hubby and I are active coaches in our children's sports.   I have worked hand-in-hand with a lot of teachers, parents, and children.  I love helping people, and making our world a better place for our children.  I think I will be a good addition to the YMCA because I can’t wait to start another day and try to make a difference in peoples lives.  (Even if it is just a smile!)  So come on in and you can stop by my office if you are in need of a smile.  I will be happy to give you one! Email Alicia at: ajohnston@ymcaswkansas.org

Chad Knight, Chief Executive Officer

Being a YMCA rat at a young age and growing up in Garden City, I was blessed to learn many lifelong skills at the Y. I was fortunate that my mom and dad provided me the opportunities to learn and play racquetball, basketball, swim and learn many other values at the YMCA. I graduated from the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk) with a Bachelor of Science in Education. My major was Recreation Management. Growing up in the YMCA, it was always my dream to come back and work at the Y. I would always tell the Sports Director, Greg Reinert that I was going to come back and have his job! I was the Sports Director twice before I came back in 2000 to become the Executive Director. Being the CEO, it gives me great honor to lead both of our YMCA branches and provide those lifelong skills to others. I believe in the YMCA Mission and I couldn’t think of anywhere else I would rather work! You could say I am living the dream! I can assure you that we will continue our mission, stress the importance of healthy lifestyles, listen to your needs and wants, and make sure our Character Counts in all of our programs!
Family: My family includes my wife Roni, daughter Caleigh and son Camden.
Hobbies: I enjoy playing racquetball, basketball and swimming at the Y. I love to officiate all sports, particularly basketball and football. My biggest thrill is coaching my kids, especially baseball/softball, and other kids in all their YMCA activities or other programs.

Karen Berry, Chief Financial Officer

There are many things I like about working for the Y; people being proactive regarding health, believing in family values and mostly a Christian environment. The Y has given me many opportunities for travel, education and experiences that have enriched my life. Each day at the Y brings new challenges and opportunities for learning. Our volunteers teach me something new at every committee meeting. My co-workers encourage me.

In the morning I make an inspirational commute from Scott City where I reside with the love of my life, my husband, Denton. We are blessed with two beautiful daughters, two wonderful sons-in- law, and three remarkable grandchildren. I love every day of being a parent more than the day before and being a grandmother has enlightened me on the meaning of God's unconditional love. My faith, friends, family and church bring me joy. My favorite things to do are learning, beholding nature, laughing, watching movies and reading or listening to books. Email Karen at: kberry@ymcaswkansas.org
