Run Races

Everyone knows that running is a great way to get into shape, but did you know that it can benefit almost every part of your body, as well as lift your mood? Running is incredibly effective at making you healthier in a number of ways. While it may not be everybody's favorite form of exercise, knowing what it can do for your life just may make you look at running in an entirely new light.

The Garden City Family YMCA offers the following races:

Hoof it to Health (early June)- In Coordination with Beef Empire Days this is a 5K/10K, two mile walk and a 1/2 mile kids race. Race will begin near the YMCA at the corner of Harding and Center Streets at 8:00am and will finish at the same location. 

Run For A Princess (mid June)- This run is in honor of Choloe Berry, and all loved ones taken from us too soon!  Chloe's smile was contagious and she loved life and was very spontaneous.  The proceeds from this run are given to an organization each year that proved water safety classes or equipment for kids.  Prizes are given our to the best Prince and Princess.  This run has a 5K, 2 mile walk and a 1/2 kids run.

Big Pool Tri (late June)- The Garden City Family YMCA partners with Garden City Recreation Commission to present this long-standing Tri.  Hosted at the famous "Big Pool" this consists of a 400 meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run.  We also host smaller youth event following the adult division. Check into our Big Pool Tri Training program to get a kickstart on this event!

Superhero Run (late July)- Do you have a favorite Superhero?  This is the run for you. This run benefits the Livestrong @ the YMCA program, whichi is a FREE 12 week program led by certified staff with the intention of guiding cancer survivors to finding their new normal.  Kids 1/2 race is FREE.

Family Ramble (mid/late Aug) -The Family Ramble is a longstading tradition.  In coordination with the Tumbleweed Festival this 1.5 mile and 5K is held on a Friday evening and allows racers to run through Lee Richardson Zoo during the concerts. All participants receive a discount on Tumbleweed Festival wristbands!
